Swimming Pool Technical Room — Installation & Maintenance in Basel

The Heart of Your Swimming Pool

It may not be the most visually exciting part of a swimming pool project, but it should never be overlooked. The technical room is one of the most essential elements of any swimming pool installation, ensuring reliable operation, water quality and long-term performance.

A pool technical room can be installed inside your home, garage or basement. This is often the quickest and most cost-effective solution, although it is not always feasible depending on the property layout. The room must remain dry, well-ventilated and protected from humidity to preserve the equipment and guarantee optimal system durability.

What is a swimming pool technical room used for?

The technical room houses all the equipment responsible for the filtration, water treatment and regulation of your swimming pool:

  • Variable speed pump — water circulation system

  • Filter — removes suspended particles and impurities from the water.

  • Water treatment system — salt chlorinator (1.5 g/L), chlorine or pH dosing pump, UV disinfection system.

  • Automatic pH controller — maintains the pH at around 7.4 for perfectly balanced and skin-friendly pool water.

  • Heat pump — heats the pool water to the desired temperature for optimal swimming comfort.

  • Electrical control panel — centralises and manages all pool equipment systems.

A bypass system allows specific technical room equipment to be isolated without interrupting water circulation.

In practical terms, when a device is being serviced or temporarily shut down (such as the electrolysis system, UV unit, sensors or heat pump), the filtration system continues to operate normally.

This ensures consistent water quality and prevents the need for a full system shutdown.

Dimensions & Location: Key Requirements

A technical room must be easily accessible, dry, well-ventilated and protected from frost. For a standard residential swimming pool, a minimum surface area of 4 to 6 m² is generally recommended.

It can be integrated into a dedicated pool shed, a garage, a basement, or built as a separate insulated concrete structure.

Maintenance & Upkeep

Marc Miclo and Miclo Gartenbau provide preventive maintenance for your swimming pool technical room: annual inspection of all equipment, replacement of filtration media, and verification of flow rates and pressure levels.

A well-maintained technical room ensures reliable pool performance and a long service life — allowing your swimming pool to operate efficiently for up to 20 years without unexpected issues.
